Kurt Ostervig (1912-1986) is one of the important masters of Danish Modern Design.
Ostervig started his career as a ship building engineer before focusing his talent on furniture design.
His break came when he was hired as a furniture designer for the Knudsen's Design Studio - one of the leading furniture producers in the 1930s & 40s. This led to work as a freelance furniture designer in 1947 with other leading Scandinavian furniture manufacturers. The constant search for new challenges resulted in original solutions for furniture designed for rest homes, ships, hotels, and movie theaters. His signature work was the beautifully considered combinations of oak and leather.
