Design Icon: Risom C140 Playboy Chair
We'd love to have seen the faces of readers of the July 1961 edition of Playboy after excitedly opening the magazine, only to find the anticipated centrefold bunny had been replaced with six mid century male designers.
Instead of the usual tantalising nude in the centre of the Playboy issue, readers were invited to consider the designs from six pioneering American designers.
Each suited gentleman was photographed with his favourite design object - the talent in this room is amazing. Sadly, as you can probably guess, this enlightened editorial direction was short lived.
Today all the designers featured have sadly passed away apart from Risom. The article remains as a powerful presentation of mid century modern heroes and the ethic behind their objects.
We're so delighted to have one of these design icons in our store - check out our sublimely understated Jens Risom C140 Chair.
