Living with Small Spaces

We love watching 'Grand Designs' but with the increase in living costs it's time to think small.

Buying petrol these days requires a small loan, and how can a capsicum be $5? With that in mind it's good to know that designing small is in. You'll also be relieved to know that it doesn't mean sacrificing on style. Compact living environments offer an opportunity to think differently about how we live.

After three decades of "bigger" then "bigger still", we're starting to live in closer quarters. Hopefully this leads to closer relationships too. It's cool to see a new school of architects and interior designers approaching the challenges of smaller living with a nod to mid century modern style and its lightness of form.

Here are a few of our favourite examples of well designed homes and apartments. They demonstrate well considered, elegant solutions and use space efficiently. We love the honest use of materials and sustainable concepts. These environments also feature some of our favourite design classics and vintage pieces - we like that.
