Scandinavian Furnishers Ltd is responsible for introducing New Zealanders to some of the most sleek and stylish Scandinavian designs available.

Scandinavian Furnishers was a leading furniture retailer which focused on high end modern furniture. The furniture was locally produced and channeled the leading designs of the time. Most pieces were made from mahogany to suit local tastes, rather than teak which was favoured by the Scandinavians.

The company was apparently started as a combined partnership which included one of New Zealands prominent furniture maders, Otto Larsen. Larsen was a trained cabinet maker from Denmark. After immigrating to New Zealand in the late 1950s he saw a space in the market for the clean lined, sophisticated furniture being produced in his homeland.
