Video Profile: Whites Aviation 'The Colourist'
Nothing can change the authenticity and aesthetic of a hand-made craft. We take a look at 'The Colourist', a video which profiles Grace Rawson, a hand colourist who was employed by Leo White.
In anticipation of the November book release 'Hand-Coloured New Zealand – The Photographs of Whites Aviation', by Peter Alsop, take a look into the world of now 83 year old Grace Rawson. Each aerial photograph by Whites Aviation was carefully hand coloured by a team of women in Auckland. These have grown in popularity enormously over time, and we are proud to have found some of the examples that feature in the book.
We have been in contact with the author for a number of years, as fellow collectors ourselves, although our collection isn't quite as extensive! We're lucky enough to have had an insight into his personal stash of Whites works, which must number well into the hundreds. Peter has so far published two other books, each a high quality, thoroughly researched and beautifully presented publication. This one looks to be no exception.
