Composite, a new collection from Mr. Bigglesworthy, explores the dynamic possibilites of mid-century design furniture. By highlighting the raw materials and rich textures of these high end modernist pieces, their innate beauty is exposed.

Composite opens on Saturday, 20 May.

Join the team at Mr. Bigglesworthy at the Gallery for a coffee from Café L'Affare or herb tea from Noble and Savage. Later in the afternoon, from 3pm we will also offer wine from Foxes Island wine.

Innovative design and quality craftsmanship combine to create a luxurious and considered interior. 1970s era furniture features strongly, which typically showcases chrome, rosewood, glass and teak. In response to these elements, Dan and Emma of Mr. Bigglesworthy have opted for upholstery textiles which incorporate contemporary deep greys, rich blue tones, together with black and white accents.

Whilst curating pieces for Composite, Dan and Emma note "We have pursued a luxurious side of modernism for this collection. These are all beautiful examples of form and function captured in refined materials. We have selected designs with a lightness and elegance which reflect the winter season where we are inclined to stay indoors to share a meal.

"New Zealand interior design continues to be influenced by the restrained Scandinavian modern way of living. It emphasises a lived-in charm and confident use of characterful vintage pieces. We have interpreted this look with our own take on it. Composite has a darker edge and industrial overtones which suits the environment of our store".

A luxurious, sculpted Brazilian Rosewood dining suite is paired beautifully with a tall sideboard by noted designer Ib Kofod Larsen, complete with oversized black leather handles. Another highlight is a bold and masculine offering aptly named 'The Housemaster' by British maker G-Plan. This stunning 1970's chair features plush cushions wrapped in contoured teak and chrome, the perfect platform for relaxation during cold months ahead.
