The Mid Winter Modern Preview Event

Mr. Bigglesworthy's remedy for a cold winter's night was a range of European furniture, Kir Royale cocktails and live music by lamplight.

Guests arrived at The 40 George Street Gallery in coats and scarves, which they soon had no use for. The impressively spacious showroom had been transformed into a warm, inviting space lit by the lights of candles and mid century lamps. Sideboards, dining suites, lounge suites, coffee tables and statement armchairs from the some of the best European mid century makers and designers were lit by flickers and orbs of light. Some particular favourites on the night were the organic curves of the G Plan 'Astro' Coffee Table, the glamour of the Marble Topped Archie Shine Sideboard and the stylish comfort of the G Plan Armchair Model 6250 - otherwise known as 'The Most Comfortable Chair in the World.' Amongst these showstopping pieces were the works of three emerging Kiwi artists: Kate Hart, Katie Thornton and Katharine Maude. Take a closer look at their work. The night unfolded to the live music of Jesse Sheehan. A selection of delicious canapes and Kir Royale cocktails were served, and in this intimate setting, guests were able to fall in love with the furniture. View the collection at The 40 George Street Gallery, Mt Eden from now until Sunday 22 July. The gallery opening hours are 10am-5pm on weekdays and 10am-3pm on weekends.
