Description

Exploding out of 1980s Milan, the Memphis Group took Art Deco and Pop Art one step further with fearless explorations into colour, asymmetry, and all things fun. With distinctive geometric shapes recurring in design and furniture, Memphis won't easily be forgotten as a pivotal player on the postmodern scene.

Built upon a bold, curving steel frame, this armchair nods to geometric lines in its sloped positioning. Playful patterns decorate the original foam cushions which are stacked up to the headrest. This piece screams one of a kind, all the way down to its vibrant orange terminals. Represented in the collection of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, this is a collectible design object from New Zealand history.
