Fowler Drummond & Waddell
Hastings based cabinet makers Fowler Drummond & Waddell created some of the finest quality furniture available in New Zealand during the mid century era.
Fowler Drummond & Waddell were leaders in contemporary furniture design and production in New Zealand during the mid 20th century. The company focused on high quality construction and their furniture is often defined by simple linear forms inspired by the Scandinavian cabinetmakers of the era.
FDW furniture is distinguished by a preference for solid timber rather than veneer for many of the pieces. The company favoured oak in the 1950's and switched to mahogany in keeping with current trends in the 1960s. Their most popular furniture range featured memorable 'smiling' handles which contrasted perfectly with the otherwise stark linear design.
