Sigurd Resell was born in 1920 and studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1943 to 1947. On completing his studies Resell joined the leading Norweigian design firm Rastad & Relling but his career really took off when his drawing for a furniture design competition was praised by master furniture maker Neils Vodder. In 1958 a prototype from the drawing, called the SR 600, won an award at the Copenhagen Cabinetmaker's Guild Exhibition for craftsmen in Denmark.

In 1970 Resell was invited to compete in a prestigious furniture competition by the Norwegian Industry Council. Resell received second place for a chair initially named the Blankvals armchair. The impressive design showcased a striking hammock profile rendered in a chrome steel exoskeleton. The organic steel frame allowed both a lightness of form and an almost floating sitting experience. The chair was put into production the following year by Vatne Mobler and renamed the Falcon chair.

The Falcon became an international success and is considered one of the iconic Scandinavian furniture designs. Today, all Sigurd Resell's work is highly sought after. It maintains a timeless modern quality that continues to feel fresh and relevant.
