Iconic Mies Van Der Rohe 'Barcelona' Coffee Table by Knoll
Ultra simple and clean, the Barcelona Coffee Table embodies the values, skill and eye for understated design of mid-century German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. A tailored X base steel frame supports a substantial square glass top, offering possibilities for a functional and sophisticated interior design.
Mies designed this coffee table and a corresponding lounge chair for his contribution to the 1929 German Pavilion at the International Exposition in Barcelona. The furniture and the Pavilion itself have become foundational works of architecture and design history. Mies van der Rohe is one of the most well known architect / designers of the 20th Century, known for his suite of American skyscrapers, Farnsworth House and a three year period as the Director of the Bauhaus prior to its closure.
