Pair of Torbjørn Afdal for Bruksbo 'Hunter' Armchairs by Stranda Industri
Norwegian designer Torbjørn Afdal (1917–1999) is responsible for some of Scandinavia’s most sought-after mid-century furniture. Afdal started his career as a draftsman in 1946 at the Bruksbo Drawing Office in Norway and quickly advanced to chief designer. In 1959 he won a gold medal at ‘So wohnt Europa’ in Munich for his work on the ‘Form’ dining range.
Bruksbo designed furniture for several leading Norwegian makers and Afdal’s designs were always in hot demand. These armchairs for Stranda Lenestolfabrikk are among his most well known designs, admired for their rectilinear frame, supremely comfortable sling seat and hide leather arm straps. The minimal frames are paired with leather cushions for an understated, luxurious aesthetic.
