Rare Cees Brakmaan 'Oak Series' Wardrobe by Pastoe
Cees Braakman is one of the preeminent Dutch designers of the mid 20th century. His forward focused work for Pastoe from 1945 to 1978 put the company at the cutting edge of modernist furniture design throughout Europe.
On a study trip to the United States in 1948, Braakman was inspired by the pioneering work of Charles and Ray Eames and their innovative use of modern materials and manufacturing techniques. After returning to the Netherlands, Braakman created a clear and coherent collection of furniture conceived as functional objects.
This stunning wardrobe is from the 'oak series' of 1949, a very rare design attributed to Braakman. The layout features a simple cabinet with generous internal storage raised on angular legs. To the side an extendable rail offers additional storage options. An elegant, characterful key finishes this stunning design.
