George Fejér was an influential figure in British design during the mid-20th century. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1912, Fejér relocated to Zürich in 1931 to pursue training as an architect. In 1940, he emigrated to the United Kingdom where he established himself as a successful designer specialising in kitchens, bathrooms, furniture, and cookware.
Between 1955 and 1971, Fejér served as a design consultant for the furniture maker Guy Rogers, collaborating closely with resident designer Eric Pamphilon to create notable furniture of that period.
Guy Rogers often named its products after destinations in the United States, reflecting the appeal of the trans-Atlantic lifestyle. One example is this folding sofa from the 'Manhattan' range, characterised by an organic frame made of African Afromosia. The design features generous proportions, sculpted details and premium materials, targeting a high-end market.
