David Trubridge 'Sling' Recliner
A rare and iconic recliner from one of New Zealand's most celebrated designers.
Before settling in New Zealand in 1985, David Trubridge and his family set out on an open ended adventure sailing the Pacific and Caribbean. The five years at sea had a major influence on David's design aesthetic and helped form a strong environmentally conscious philosophy that informs all aspects of his practice. Today, David's work is celebrated throughout the world and represented in the permanent collection of many leading international museums.
'Sling' is an elegant rocking recliner that showcases the marine influenced aesthetic that David has become known for. It won the Designers’ Institute of New Zealand Best Award 2002 for Best of Product Design/Furniture and was also shown in the Pacific Edge display in the Milan Fair’s Salone Satellite 2002. Subsequently the Italian company Cappellini signed an agreement with David to produce Sling for the European market.
Sling is out of production but can be seen in the permanent collection of the NZ Dowse Art Museum, and your house if you purchase this rare example.
