Maarten Van Severen 'MVS' Lounge Chair for Durlet
A future Cubist design classic.
Maarten van Severen has a remarkable legacy as one of the most talented Belgian furniture designers. His work is celebrated for its simple clarity, perfect execution and insightful fabrication. This led to collaboration with leading international furniture makers including Vitra, Kartell, Edra, Alessi, and Pastoe. Unfortunately, van Severen passed away from cancer in 2005 at age 46.
This sleek design for high end Belgian furniture maker Durlet was one of the last designs produced before van Severin passed away. The primary forms strongly reference designs from Rietveld and Mondrian in the De Stijl movement. Despite it's rigid and abstracted form, it's incredibly comfortable and very functional. This chair can be effortlessly tilt adjusted, easily rotated and features memorable reverse seams to each of the leather sections.
