Iconic Dick Cordemeijer 'Cleopatra' Daybed by Auping
An iconic Dutch design which was a popular look of the 1960s, made known by designers like Mies van der Rohe from the 1930s. A sleek stretcher frame in steel is finished with teak cap ends and a simple foam slab with an accent roll cushion to one end.
Hired by mattress manufacturer Auping as a technician, Dick Cordemeijer worked alongside other prominent designers of the time Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld to expand the appeal of their range. The Cleopatra was a huge success and was produced from 1953–1982 then relaunched in 2008 as a limited edition to mark the company's 120th anniversary. The design remains the highlight of Cordemeijer's career.
