Memorable Walter Von Nessen 'Torchiere' Up Lamp by Nessen Studio
Nessen Studio was founded by German industrial designer Walter Von Nessen in New York in 1927. His progressive designs quickly found a passionate following among well-established architects of the day and the company was highly influential in developing a market for adjustable indirect lighting, which was only an emerging in the 1920s.
Walter Van Nessen passed away at a young age in 1943 and the studio was then run by his very talented wife, Grete Von Nessen. Today, both Walter and Grete Von Nessen designs can be found in the permanent collection of MoMA.
This stunning mid-century American up-light features a simple yet refined conical shade that flows seamlessly down through a slender shaft. It's an elegant design from a highly influential American lighting company.
