Six Michael Van Beuren 'Danesa' Dining Chairs by Van Beuren SA de CV
This set of chairs from Bauhaus trained designer Michael van Beuren offer the kind of understated elegance that defines mid-century furniture from the 1950s. Van Beuren is credited with modernising the Mexican furniture industry and creating progressive forms with a simple, graphic qualities. A floating seat base and outswept legs create a sense of lightness while drawing attention to the sculptural frames.
American born Michael van Beuren had German heritage and was educated in design at the Bauhaus before it was closed by Nazis during the leadership of Mies van der Rohe. He then established his own design and manufacturing company in Mexico and became an important part of design history with high quality craftsmanship and use of local materials. His work has been celebrated, documented and exhibited in Mexico, with several designs becoming sought after at high end auction houses.
