The 'Combi Star' was one of Danske Mobler's premium statement armchairs and featured prominently in the company's advertising and catalogues in the 1960s. A bold silhouette, elegant curves in rich mahogany and ability to rock and recline made it the must have armchair for aspiring local trend setters.
The 'Combi Star' was designed by celebrated Norwegian designer Arnt Lande for Stokke Fabrikker in 1960. Lande was design director at Stokke for 40 years and designed some of Norway's most memorable mid-century furniture. Stokke furniture was sold throughout the world by distribution company Westnofa.
In New Zealand during the mid-century era there were prohibitively high import duties, introduced to promote local production and industry. Many NZ furniture makers, including Danske Mobler, produced the best-selling international designs for a kiwi audience keen to have access to the latest designs.
Each piece is checked and carefully hand restored at our Kingsland studio workshop. Our focus is preserving the character and patina of the design while ensuring it displays beautifully in a contemporary interior.
