Pair of Luxurious Elsa & Nordahl Solheim 'Pirate' Chairs by Rykken of Norway
During the 1970s, Norwegian furniture rose to international prominence through a number of iconic designs produced in highly curved, laminated timber. The furniture was innovative, contemporary and had a lightness of form rarely achieved by traditional producers. It could also be easily flat packed and exported around the world at a competitive price.
These stunning cantilevered 'Pirate' chairs were designed in 1967 and released in 1973. They were available with a laminated timber frame or in a deluxe, flat bar steel version. This design perfectly showcases why Norwegian furniture became so desirable. The form is unique, stylish and dangerously comfortable, perfect statement pieces for any contemporary interior.
