Early Mid Century Radiata Pine Rocking Chair
A beautifully designed desk in pine.
In the early 1950s, progressive architects and designers experimented with new timbers and simple forms that would distinguish their work from the dark, heavy set furniture of prior generations. Radiata Pine was one of the first timbers to be embraced in this search for a truly modern material for the forward focused New Zealander.
This early mid-century Radiata Pine rocking chair is a fascinating example of the modern furniture produced locally in the 1950s. Simple, geometric forms are covered with a woven jute seat base which emphasises the raw qualities of the piece.
