Bold Pair of 'No 4' Rocket Armchairs by Airest
During the 1950s, Ces Renwick of Airest looked internationally for inspiration to create furniture that would push boundaries and inspire a local Kiwi audience. For this design, Renwick was inspired by the work of groundbreaking Australian designer Fred Lowen and his recently released SC55 armchair.
The Airest interpretation of the SC55 features broad surfboard style armrests and dynamic, splayed legs. It perfectly captures the forward-focused, optimistic ethic of the post-war lifestyle. These beautifully comfortable chairs are ready for any contemporary living area.
Each piece is checked and carefully hand restored at our Kingsland studio workshop. Our focus is preserving the character and patina of the design while ensuring it displays beautifully in a contemporary interior.
