Stunning Danish Mid-Century Sofa for Moreddi
The Frank Brothers furniture company was pivotal in the introduction of Danish furniture and modern design into the West Coast of the USA. By 1947 the brothers had one of the largest modern furniture stores, located in Long Beach, California. The store was an architectural gem in itself and hosted product launches for several leading designers, including Charles and Ray Eames.
Moreddi was the wholesale and import arm of the Frank Brothers company. It supplied the stores with the best designs out of Europe. Many of the imported pieces were exclusive to Frank Brothers and tailored to the American market with darker teak finishes that aligned with the American preference for walnut.
The creator of this Danish sofa hasn't yet been discovered but it is clearly the work of a very talented designer. A refined, organic frame incorporating generous pieces of luminous teak perfectly elevates simple box like cushions. No one does organic mid-century furniture like the Danes and this stunning sofa is no exception.
