Description

John Crichton was one of the most talented and progressive New Zealand designers of the mid 20th century. His pioneering work helped define what is now known as Pan Pacific modernism, a locally inspired fusion of Japanese, American and Pacific references combined with a modernist ethic.

This stunning découpage side table with its elegant butterfly and leaf detailing is a very rare example of Crichton's work and one of only two we have seen. Another example of Crichton's use of this decorative method can be seen in his side table featured in the Charlotte & Peter Fiell edited 'Decorative Art 50s' book by Taschen.
