Description

Local furniture maker Backhouse designed and produced some of New Zealand's most premium furniture. The company sold its work through leading high end boutiques and department stores like Kirkalde & Stains in Wellington and Smith & Caughey in Auckland. While most New Zealand makers used more affordable timbers like mahogany, Backhouse followed international trends and also embraced the premium timbers favoured by the Danish makers, Teak and Rosewood.

This stunning set of occasional chairs feature a compact footprint making them not only ideal in the lounge as armchairs but also perfect at the side of a room as an occasional or executive chair. Their refined form showcases the deep understanding and respect founder and designer Joe Backhouse had for modern Scandinavian design. Elegant proportions and a lightness of form define this crisp and angular design.
